Accident or Illness whilst Abroad
Millions of people from England and Wales go abroad for holidays and whilst away on their trip some are involved in an accident and are injured as a result. Many people are under the impression that because you were injured in a foreign country you have to pursue a compensation claim in that country. However, this may not be the case and because so many of us are now having holidays abroad, being involved in an accident is no longer an uncommon occurrence. Making a claim for an accident or illness whilst abroad is now far easier and the present rules and regulations now make it far easier to make a compensation claim for your injury.
Historically, if you were injured abroad you would have to pursue a claim in that country, which was often difficult, inconvenient and very expensive. However, since the introduction of the Package Holiday, the Package Tour Regulations 1992 and the 4th EU Motor Directive 2003, the process of making a compensation claim has become far easier and many can be pursued through the English Courts.
Having these regulations now make it far more accessible pursuing a claim for compensation. Firstly, you can go to your local solicitor to make a claim for compensation face to face, which is far easier. Secondly, you will not have to worry about the language barrier as you are dealing with someone in the UK to carry out your injury claim. Thirdly, you will not run up huge costs having to either travel over to or contact foreign solicitors. Finally, you might be awarded a larger sum for your injury claim by going through the English courts rather than going through the courts in which your accident happened.
