If you have had the misfortune of being involved in an accident and getting injured or contracting an illness you may have a claim for compensation. However, there are a few things you need to look out for as the ticket you obtain for passage is the contract for passage and will have rules or regulations on this. These could be as follows:
- There is likely to be a limitation of 1 year to file from the date you are injured
- You may be required to notify the ship owner within a certain time i.e. 90 days
- You may have to file your lawsuit in a specific country or location
