Industrial Disease/Illnesses

Industrial Disease / Illnesses

Industrial Disease/ Illnesses are conditions that are contracted whilst working are often linked with asbestos. Asbestos was commonly used for insulation as it is fire and heat resistant and seemed revolutionary within the industrial sector as it was indestructible and also flexible.

However, it was found to have very small fibres that could be inhaled and would work their way into the lungs and in some cases in the membrane around the abdomen and heart.

These fibres are then left dormant around these areas for a number of years and can cause a number of diseases and illnesses such as Asbestosis, Lung Cancer, Pleural Plaques, Pleural Thickening, Emphysema and Mesothelioma.

However, these are just one of many industrial Disease / Illnesses that can be suffered - the causes and symptoms vary widely.
