Pedestrians are the highest risk group in road accidents with a substantial number being injured in the UK every year. If you have been injured in an accident, you may be entitled to claim compensation from the driver of the vehicle responsible.
Pedestrians are vulnerable to serious injury even from a relatively minor accident.
You may be able to make a claim if you are hit by a vehicle whilst you are crossing the road, on the pavement or in a car park.
You may also be able to claim if you are not actually struck by the vehicle but suffer an injury trying to avoid being hit.
The driver of a car has a responsibility to report any accident where there is an injury, but hit and run accidents are all too common. It is still possible to make a claim for compensation which will be dealt with by the Motor Insurers Bureau.
The Motor Insurers Bureau may pay compensation where a driver is uninsured or unidentified.
To help your case, it can assist your solicitor if you follow these steps, but always check with your solicitor what they require:
- take the names and addresses of the driver and any witnesses
- keep evidence of doctors visited
- keep receipts for any expenses you have had to pay
- take photographs if possible
This will help you to make your claim for compensation.
