Driving your car is something we do every day, but when we are suddenly hit from behind by another vehicle this can change everything. Whether stationary at a roundabout, pulling out of a junction or wherever, this type of accident really takes you by surprise and in some cases cause injury.
The most common type of injury from a rear end shunt car accident is a ‘whiplash’ injury, in which the body is restrained by the seat belt and the head has no restraint, causing the neck to be jolted forwards (hyperflexion) or backwards (hyperextension) very quickly. As a result of this sudden extension of the neck a soft tissue injury can be caused.
This is not the only injury that can occur from a rear end shunt car accident, but is the most common type of injury. If you have been involved in this type of accident then there are a few things you need to remember:
- Take a note of the other persons details i.e. car registration, name, phone no., insurance details
- Take a note of the weather conditions
- Obtain the details of any witnesses
- If you are injured, go and see your local GP immediately
