Help & FAQs

If you still have questions about making a claim, please see if your query is answered below or email us using the contact page

Q: I've been injured and it wasn't my fault, what do I do next?
A: Ring Accident Line on freephone 0800 19 29 39, but first try to prepare answers to the questions your Accident Line adviser will ask you. For instance:

  • Have your personal details ready, eg address, tel nos (home, work & mobile)
  • Date of the accident, or when you first noticed any symptoms of illness
  • Where did the accident happen?
  • Prepare a brief description of what happened - write this down if it helps
  • If you had medical attention, what did the doctor tell you?
  • Did the Police attend the accident - if so do you have any details?
  • Did you attend hospital or your GP for your injuries - if so give us their details
  • If possible obtain details of the person/organisation you believe was responsible for the accident/illness, (eg name, address and insurance company)
Q: How do I know it is safe to reveal these private details?
A. Accident Line undertakes to keep your details absolutely confidential and will only release them to your solicitor with your specific permission.

Q: Will the solicitor be local to me?
A: Yes. Your Accident Line adviser will normally suggest a firm in the vicinity of your home or your work, or an alternative if you prefer. You will receive written confirmation of the chosen firm and its address.

Q. When will I meet the solicitor and what will it cost?
A. Within five working days the solicitor will telephone you to fix a convenient time for you to attend a free consultation. There will be no visit to your home or work without your specific permission. The solicitor will explain how the case could be funded.

Q: Who will pay me?
A: If you win your claim the person or organisation that caused the accident or illness will pay you compensation. Normally, however, it will be their insurance company that actually pays. Remember to keep a note of any expenses you incurred as a result of the accident, and wherever possible keep the receipts.

Q: How much will I get?
A: That depends on any number of factors, but your solicitor will advise you.

Q: When will I be paid compensation?
A: When your opponent agrees to settle your claim, or when the Court case is concluded.

Q: How long will my case take?
A: This will depend on the circumstances. The case will end more quickly if your opponent admits responsibility and their insurer agrees your compensation.

Q: Will I be needed in court?
A: Not necessarily. Most cases settle before they reach court, especially if responsibility for the accident is clear, and the extent of your injuries can be agreed between the parties.

Q: If so what will I do?
A: There is no need to worry; your solicitor will explain the procedure in the unlikely event of the case reaching court.
